Lenovo Unevils first Penryn based PCs
Lenovo today broke two previous barriers by introducing both its first genuinely new Think-branded systems since taking over IBM’s name in 2005 and launching the first computers ever to use Intel’s Penryn processor technology. The newly branded ThinkStation D10 and S10 will offer quad core performance along with a “passive venting system” that helps to cool the system quietly i.e both D10 and S10 use the 45-nanometer architecture to pack quad-core CPUs without the typical energy draw and heat associated with the extra performance. Both also share a uniquely quiet design that relies on passive venting to help cool the system without high fan speeds.
D10 is outfitted with a 5400 Xeon processor and the S10 with a 3GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650.The both computers would use NVIDIA graphics and dual Gigabit Ethernet and multiple slots, bays and USB ports for expandability. The D10 and the S10 is expected to be released this January for $1,739 and $1,199 respectively.

NEC US110 Small Desktop PC Review
Before the all of this multi-core processor madness begun, we saw the birth of some of the smallest computers ever like Sony’s ultra thin Vaio X505 laptop and the popular Apple Mac Mini. And to be honest I kind of miss those days, rather than the bulky gadgets we have today like Nokia’s N series phones or most PDAs. Thankfully, it appears that there is still hope for small-form lovers like myself, for NEC has just announced what is possibly one of the smallest computers I’ve ever seen, the US110.
The 350g 150×94x30.4mm computer is based on Windows CE operating system and is capable of playing MPEG, WMV and Flash files. It’s equipped with five USB 2.0 ports, 1 VGA port, Gigabit Ethernet, and supports max resolution of 1600×1200, VoIP and web conferencing.
The US110 be available from 29 October for about $438.
HP Blackbird 002 Gaming Desktop Review
HP’s Blackbird 002 is the first product from the collaborative design and production minds of HP and its year-old boutique acquisition, Voodoo PC. The result is a system that makes an unexpectedly large dent in what we expect from high-end gaming PCs. In addition to its unique appearance and a Mac Pro-quality interior design, HP and Voodoo have done for $5,600 what would cost significantly more from other vendors. The Blackbird 002 will satisfy any well-off gamer looking for a unique, expensive showpiece desktop. For the rest of us, let’s hope that future, more affordable products from the HP/Voodoo team-up show so much polish and creativity.
The angled lines of Dell’s XPS 700 series systems tweaked the idea of the typical desktop case. HP’s Blackbird 002 takes that reinvention even further, with its design that looks like an accordion floating on a cantilevered base. Two slot-loading DVD burners and a spare 5.25-inch bay hide between the ridges that run down the front of the Blackbird, and a row of ports and a media card reader pop up from a cleverly concealed, spring-loaded mechanism on the top.
As the Blackbird 002 looks as tidy inside as the Mac Pro, it also incorporates the modularity we like so much in Apple’s desktop. That means you don’t ever see or need to deal with those cables. Similarly, the spare 5.25-inch drive cage is locked in place by a plastic pull tab. The Blackbird 002 couldn’t be easier to expand or upgrade, and it outdistances every other high-end gaming PC in this regard.
Apple updated Mac Mini desktops…
Apple quietly updated its smaller-scale Mac Mini desktops, adding a faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor in place of the old Core Duo chips. The result is more or less competitive performance compared to similar Windows PCs. The problem is the cost. At $799, the 2.0GHz Mac Mini is roughly $180 more expensive than competing small-scale systems.
The company also doubled the amount of RAM in the Mac mini to 1GB out of the box. The industrial design of the consumer Mac remains the same as the previous generation.Apple brings the Mac Mini in two different configurations. The first one includes 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB memory , 80GB hard drive and the second one includes 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB memory, 120GB hard drive and free shipping within 24 hours.
The good points included in Mac Mini Compact size and great looks mean the Mac Mini can be put practically anywhere in your home, built-in wireless card, ships with same software bundle as pricier Macs, vocal Mac community means you can find help online for almost any problem and the Mac Mini lacks because of its too higher costs which is around $599 and $799. No media card reader, small, slow hard drive, free phone support runs out after only 90 days.
In all this desktop PC has all those features to grab the attention of consumers only if Apple reduces the price of this model.

Sahara’s MK-10 with TV tuner
Sahara Media Center PC or MK-10 (whose model number is S-MC765124-MK10) has brought a change in the desktop PC just by adding a component. That component is a TV tuner. This TV tuner card let the users to get back to their favorite serials or programs on the television-set anytime they wish to. As this TV tuner not only sets he favorite channel of the user but also let them save their favorites. This means that they are simply able to shift the timings of their programs as per their choice which is referred to as “pausing live television”. This is possible just by clicking the pause button and soon the recording gets started and is resumed back by clicking the ‘resume’ button.

The input devices includes RF Keyboard with inbuilt scroll Mouse, Microsoft Media Center Remote (IR), 17-inch LCD Monitor, 16x Dual Layer DVD Writer, Case with built in display and card reader which is too expensive around Rs. 7,000. It has Altec Lansing 2.1 Channel (121i) speakers and the Operating System included is Microsoft Media Center Edition.
The Media Center Case’s is expensive because of specific non-standard design, especially of the power supply. With the additional cost of the front display and a volume knob, the estimated price of this model of Sahara would be around Rs. 46,000. But Sahara’s actual cost price for this model is Rs. 52,000 approximately with year’s support and warranty.
