The price reductions are anticipated to be beneficial for individuals buying their own copy of Windows Vista,the price reduction is effective immediately and will be applicable only for Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate editions.The price cut will roll out across 70 countries.
The price of the full retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate will drop from $399 to $319 and the price of the upgrade version of Windows Vista Ultimate will drop from $259 to $219 and morover upgrade version of Vista Home Premium will drop from $159 from $129.Shop around and you’re likely to get a far better price. Leopard Eats More Power Than Tiger-Apple Worried
Apple Inc. new operating system “leopard”( Mac OS X 10.5) is seemingly eating up battery life and backup according to many experts and leopard holders.Its pretty much like, their laptops were giving 3 to 4 hour backups before leopard came their way,and now with leopard the battery backup has dropped considerably to nearly half of its previous performances.
The apparent speculation among the experts and the users is that this flaw in battery backup is because of the numerous advanced graphical interfaces that leopard carries along with it.Tags involved owing to the problems with leopard are really funny!!People say-Their computer gets locked up and get “the blue screen of death”as display, following an upgrade to Leopard. Others had frozen keyboards.
On the contrary the previous OS by Apple,TIGER(Mac OS X version 10.4) had no such problems related to it.Six weeks after its official release, Apple had delivered 2 million copies of Tiger, representing 16% of all Mac OS X users. Apple claimed that Tiger was the most successful Apple OS release in the company’s history.
Now the interesting fact is that despite the problems, Leopard appears to be selling well. Apple has reported that it sold more than 2 million copies of the OS during its first weekend of availability far outrunning first-week sales of Tiger.
Google Gives Away $10 Million In Prizes

Google Inc. is throwing $10 million in prizes for people who build the best software to enhance the company’s upcoming cellphone operating system.The Mountain View-based company is developing a free cell phone software package that it says will make it easier to surf the Web over mobile devices. It also will give Google more opportunities to sell ads and services.
The operating system will be based on computer code that can be openly distributed among programmers, which Google hopes will encourage developers to create new software and improvements that could spawn new uses for smart phones.
As part of the Android Developer Challenge, a panel of judges will pick 50 winners from entries received from Jan. 2 through March 3, 2008. In the first phase of the competition, those winners will each get $25,000 and be eligible for ten awards of $100,000 and another ten $275,000 awards.
The second phase of the competition will feature another $5 million in prize money.
The company only said the winning programs will “provide consumers with the most compelling experiences.”Google also released a tool kit for working on the new platform, which is to be released in the second half of next year.
Four cell phone manufacturers – Motorola Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., HTC and LG Electronics Inc. – have agreed to use Android in some of their phones. .Twenty-nine other companies have signed on as members of the alliance.
Android will be in competition with mobile operating systems made by Microsoft Corp., Palm Inc., Research In Motion Ltd., and Symbian, which is owned by Nokia Corp. and several other major phone makers.
Microsoft Out With Two Security Patches
“Patch Tuesday” is almost incoming and as usual brings with it, a number of security fixes.
However, this time around unlik former occasions, there are only 2 security patches. The first security patch is marked critical and will fix a critical vulnerability that allows remote code execution. This fix is intended for the problem caused by Macrovision’s Secdrv driver, which is security software designed to prevention piracy of games.
In its Microsoft Security Advisory (944653), Microsoft proclaims, “We are aware of limited attacks that try to use the reported weakness. Microsoft is actively keeping an eye over this situation to keep customers updated and to provide customer guidance as necessary. Upon completion of this investigation, Microsoft will take the appropriate action to help protect our customers. This will include providing a security update through our monthly release process.”
The second security patch is rated as “important” and it fixes a “spoofing” vulnerability in Windows that Microsoft planned to fix last month but however deferred.
