Got Enough Of IE7 Here’s Microsoft With IE8 Beta

The graphical web browser released by Microsoft in late 2006 for Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1 cmae to be renowned as IE7 (Internet Explorer 7).The Windows Vista and XP version of Windows Internet Explorer 7 additionally feature an update to the WinInet API. The new version has better support for IPv6, and handles hexadecimal literals in the IPv6 address. It also includes better support for Gzip and deflate compression, so that communication with a web server can be compressed and thus will require less data to be transferred.ie72.jpg

Microsoft Corp. gave early testers their first glimpse of its next-generation Web browser Wednesday, and said Internet Explorer 8 will adhere to the same standards as competitors’ programs.Microsoft’s browsers, including the current Internet Explorer 7, gained notoriety among Web developers for handling Web page code differently than Mozilla Corp.’s Firefox, Apple Inc.’s Safari, the now-defunct Netscape Navigator and others.

For the most part, major non-Microsoft browsers and outside developers who built Web pages worked with agreed-upon technical standards, while Microsoft was accused of adding proprietary code to those standards. The result: Web pages that looked good in Internet Explorer but broke on other browsers, or vice versa.first-screenshots-from-internet-explorer-8-leaked-6.jpg

At a Web developer conference in Las Vegas Wednesday, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer division, madeMicrosoft’s past striking standards look light and promised to better things out.He elicited a laugh, but developers have sometimes had to build Web sites from scratch a second time to devise a version that worked with Microsoft’s browsers.

Microsoft said the new version of the browser, when complete, will support industry-standard versions of the code that tells browsers what Web pages should look like, including CSS 2.1, by default.Chris Swenson, a software industry analyst for the NPD Group exclaimed “That’s a big deal!!”

Meanwhile when most of the Web surfers might not have greatly impressed, Swenson exclaimed that it will bring “a sigh of relief” for developers, who will have to work less on making webpages compatible to different browsers.Microsoft’s decision might also help it fend off a new antitrust investigation in Europe.

Regulators there are looking into whether the software maker held other browsers back by not following open Internet standards. The probe was launched after Norwegian browser developer Opera Software ASA filed a complaint in late 2007.

Microsoft raised curtain from over a few features in the new browser that may attract more Web users. For one, right-clicking on a Web page will now offer more “to-do” options than what is available today.Users will be capable of “Send to Facebook,” “Map with Live Search” or “Define with Dictionary.com” with a quick click.

Microsoft’s Silverlight To Be Brighter Than Adobe Flash

Microsoft has proclaimed the availability of Silverlight 1.0 in India, its counter to Adobe Flash, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in that delivers media experiences through the Web.silverlight_300×250.jpg
Tarun Gulati, general manager, Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft India said, “Many companies in India and across the world today are using path breaking customer experience as a competitive advantage for their businesses, and we believe that Microsoft’s products such as Silverlight, Expression, WPF will allow companies to take this to the next level in an easy, cost effective manner.”

Major companies and websites plan to have a taste of silverlight. Sify.com, Rediff.com, Indian Cricket League and Sulekha.com have plans to deliver Silverlight-based experiences for their viewers and customers.

In addition to Silverlight 1.0, Microsoft has also recently launched, a complete product suite -Expression Studio – for the designer community, focused on enabling better collaboration between designers and developers. Microsoft is working with Novell Inc to deliver Silverlight support for Linux, called Moonlight.

Google Thinks New With Distribution Network

Google Inc. is bringing up a distribution network for social networking applications, adding a new twist in the Internet search leader’s budding rivalry with rapidly maturing startup Facebook Inc.Although Google confirmed its plans late Tuesday, its new social networking platform won’t be unveiled until later this week.

Google hopes to build a one-stop shop for software developers who create tools that make it easier to share music, pictures, video etc. on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.com.The popularity of these applications, also known as ‘widgets’, has grown dramatically since Facebook opened its Web site to accommodate outside developers five months ago.google-elevator.jpg

Microsoft trumped Google in the bidding for a piece of Facebook. Google’s bigger social networking ambition is believed to be one of the reasons Facebook decided to deepen its partnership with Microsoft instead.

Google now hopes to attract many of the same applications thriving on Facebook to its own network, dubbed ‘OpenSocial’. OpenSocial’s combined audience will exceed 100 million users, claims Google.Google also will feature the applications on its own social network, Orkut, which hasn’t attracted much traffic outside South America and India.

Yahoo Lets Out Messenger 9.0

After Yahoo Version 8 came this was pretty much Expected…
Yahoo today pronounced the launch of its Messenger 9.0 Beta, a fresh version of the popular Instant Messaging software, that’s designed to work on both Windows XP and Vista.

The latest version allows people in six new markets to use the program in their native language. They are the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and India. The Indian version enables users to chat in Hindi.

As for features, there’s the obviously new design, and you can choose from several color themes. Avatars and status messages can now be seen right next to contacts’ names. New skins and emoticons add to the visual appeal.Aesthetics apart, Messenger 9.0 beta is fully compatible with video and photo sharing applications such as YouTube or Flickr, so sharing pictures and video clips is made simple via the inline media player.

A call forwarding option – rather like Skype’s – allows users to stay connected with contacts even when they’re away from the PC. Voice mails are sent as MP3 attachments via email.File sharing is claimed to be much more safe, thanks to scan support from Symantec Norton AntiVirus.

Microsoft Out With The Latest IE 7

Microsoft never seems to be out of new strategies……..
In a move that seems to have come out of left field, Microsoft has introduced a new version of IE(Internet Explorer) that can be compatible with any XP/Windows 2003 server machine… even ones that have failed Microsoft’s infamous WGA test. This move seems to have been done to boost IE’s popularity that has been facing steady depletion and harm from Firefox.ie7.jpg

“Because Microsoft takes its commitment to help protect the entire Windows ecosystem seriously, we’re updating the IE7 installation experience to make it available as broadly as possible to all Windows users,” remarked IE7 program manager Steve Reynolds on the IE Blog . “With today’s ‘Installation and Availability Update,’ Internet Explorer 7 installation will no longer require Windows Genuine Advantage validation and will be available to all Windows XP users.”

McDonald’s In For Providing Free Wi-Fi In UK .

This time it was chance for McDonald to be in headlines…

Fast food chain McDonald’s was quoted as saying it would offer free of cost wireless Internet access across its 1,200-strong restaurants in the UK, making it the country’s biggest supplier of free wireless broadband access.

The move reflects increasing competition in the UK’s broadband market dominated by contract or pay-as-you-go services, where a regular hotspot user usually has to pay around 5 pounds ($10.18) for an hour log-on.

On Thursday, Britain’s top fixed-line carrier BT Group said it had teamed up with Wi-Fi crusader FON to allow more than three million UK broadband customers to use hundreds of thousands of hotspots for free.

There are around 11,477 Wi-Fi hotspots in the UK and leading service providers include The Cloud, BT, and Deutsche Telecom’s T-Mobile.McDonald’s service will account for about 10 percent of the total Wi-Fi hotspots.
