Review: Portal

portal_cover.jpgYou wake up in a sleeping pod, you look around and notice that there in no door. A sedate robotic voice alerts you that the portal will be opening soon. A second later, a large, orange rimmed oval appears on the wall and while examining it you also notice similar, blue rimmed oval. Inside that blue rimmed oval stands a woman copying your every move. Then you realize that the woman is you and you were looking at your self image. The starting levels introduce you to application of the portal technology. At start you are handed with portal gun and allow you to create portal anywhere you desire. Then after this you have test chambers where certain surfaces are not portal-able which are difficult. The real complexity of portal lie in the challenge of thinking on portal.

Portal is short and can be completed in a span of five hours. Value has designed 6 advanced chambers, all of them are test chambers with little tweaks to present tougher levels. You can take challenge maps and try to complete them with least number of portal used or least number of steps or in the least time.

Portal is a fantastic game that can be played by those who are interested in unique, well-crafted gameplay and smart script. Portal may not last long but it remains one of the best game.

Review: Assassin’s Creed

assassins_creed_27.jpgUbisoft features one of the most unique game-world created. It is a fun and exciting action game with loads of stuff to do and places to explore. You will explore 3 major cities Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre. Each city is featured with towers, market squares and corners where people stand and converse. Altair has deep effect on the world, the cities are entities of their own and their own flow and personality. The cities are huge and at early chapters where they open to let you travel from one side to another side of the city. Every object is textured so fine and animation are equally well done also. On high-end PC, these elements look more stunning then they look on Xbox360 or PS3.

The sound of the game is more impressive than graphics. The game does a good job, making sure you hear what you need to hear. Conversation are delivered with great perfection and lovely musical themes that add even more. The game is mix of stealth, action and platforming. To complete your mission you have to follow all possible leads which may involve pick-pocket, beat information out of target or listen to secret conversation. You can pounce your enemies by your blade or kill them from distance by throwing draggers. In start it feels easy but as you proceed the boss fight against endless attackers, you require perfect timing to counter every strike.

The PC version is not the superior one but if you do not get chance to play it on Xbox360 or PS3, then you can go for this version and immerse yourself in this world. If you have the high configured PC then this is the game you should have in your collection. In this you have ton of stuff to do apart from your official goal, you can spend time in finishing every quest and collecting every flag around the city.

Review: Mass Effect

2jcv87.jpgAfter release of Mass Effect on Xbox 360 by EA and after improvements the result is one of the best role-playing game of recent time. This game presents you beautiful galaxy with fascinating alien races. You will play as Commander Shepard, saviour of the galaxy. You will begin with customizing your character in which physical customization is not so deep. Then you have to choose a one class from six, each with its own importance in combat, tech and biotics. As the game proceeds, character will refer to your past judgements, comments and will react according to it on various degree.

In this you have to go through the dialogues and make judgements which can have life or death consequence. Your decisions can affect the outcome of the mission. You can console a suicide attack victim or turn friend into foe and many more decisions which you can make. The decision you make do not affect your abilities but will affect the game-play and you will earn paragon or renegade points, which like good versus evil system. Apart from the main quest you can also have option for side quest while you travel planet to planet to complete your main quest. The inventory system is much more easier to manage and driving the Mako is easier than before.

All things, the story, the characters, the combat, the soundtrack makes Mass Effect great game on PC. Biowrae is also offers the down-loadable expansion ‘Bring Down the Sky’ free for PC players. It is recommended that you go for PC version Than going for Xbox360.

Review: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

enemy_territory_large.jpgEnemy Territory: Quake Wars is combination of return to Castle wolfenstein and the Battlefield games. The two teams duel out attempting to complete the objectives and this time you have loads of different vehicles and aircraft for your mission. Quake Wars starts when year is 2065, the strogg race attack the earth for its raw material to convert into fuel called stroyent. So you can join any of the race, Human global defense or the alien Strogg Force. At start, you have to choose one of the classes before each match. Human races and Strogg races have different classes and you cannot correlate classes like strogg weaponry doesn’t require any ammo so you don’t have to carry them while GDF field oppressors can drop ammo packs. GDF soldiers and Strogg opperssors are front line troops and so on. Every race has their importance like both GDF covert and Strogg infiltrates can disguise as the enemy, but covert can use explosives surveillance camera while infiltrator can send drone to do the battle.

When you are in the game you are given with the primary and secondary objective. Teams share a primary objective and as the game goes on and an objective is accomplished, the objective shifts. The new games in action will also feel that they contributes and as you proceed in the game you will earn medal and persistent ranks. You will also gain improved weaponry, faster sprinting depending on the amount experience earned within current campaign. There are 12 maps which can hold up-to 32 player at a time. In this game it is difficult to be in-contact with your fellow teammates as this game do not provide voice chats.

Review: Unreal Tournament 3

unreal_tournament_3_cover_gross.jpgUnreal Tournament 3 does not change lots of things but you can find new maps, graphical overhaul, and easy game modes. While the other games concentrate on going more realistic, UT3 focus on its game play. UT3 gives you uneventful storyline in its campaign mode. Campaign mode is 5-7 hours training mode so that you are well prepared with the maps and stand a chance in multi-player mode with 3 more players on your side in campaign mode.

UT3 has 6 different game mode to play like Death match, Team Death match, Duel (one on one). The largest mode is known as Warfare, it’s played on bigger maps with load of guns and vehicles. Warfare is a mode in which one team has to destroy power core of other’s team to be declared as winner. You have to link them togeather till you are linked with opposing team’s base, and at the moment you can destroy the enemy core and hold your victory.

UT uses Unreal Engine 3, the basic set of tools. For high configured machine its a great looking game while for the machine not such high configured it gives you playable experience. The game’s animation, models are all improved and top-notched for high-end machines. The music is high, with great sound of gunfire and explosions. You can hear taunt when get killed from the character. UT is very different from typical first-person shooting, it’s more like a war.
