The ESP-5 printer has the same simple textured black plastic body design as the ESP3, large 3-inch LCD screen, the perforated scanner cover adds an elegant touch and the smaller footprint that gives the device a flimsy and delicate feel. Kodak’s latest AiO printers use pigment-based inks that improved photo quality over previous model. A PictBridge socket and memorySticks, xD, SD, and compact flash cards slots are provided for direct printing from digital cameras and other devices. The Kodak ESP printer ships with the two separate installation discs for Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista as well as includes Kodak Inkjet Printer Software Version 2.2 and Kodak Home Center software.The Kodak ESP5 offers the opportunity to edit each individual picture with a variety of one-touch enhancements including color sharpening, red-eye reduction, color restoration, and Kodak’s “Perfect Touch” technology.Inspite of all the Kodak ESP5 is a little inconsistent in terms of its speed and graphics quality still lacks definition.

Brother’s new the MFC-7440N a laser multi-function Center with Networking, and a small footprint for a multifunction unit. The Brother MFC 7440N is an all-in-one solution for your home or home-office business needs.The Brother MFC-7440N prints quickly and is fairly inexpensive to sustain that includes a laser printer, copier, scanner, and high-speed fax functionality in a single machine. The MFC-7440N offers you with decent quality black and white scans and a 35-page auto document feeder.

The Brother MFC-7440N suffers from poor quality graphics prints, an unattractive the plain matte gray finish design, and cramped paper output tray that holds 250 sheets and can accommodate up to 8.5 inch by 14 inch legal-size paper. The MFC-7440N is equipped with a small narrow control panel, two-line LCD and a host of rubber buttons for navigation, quick start keys, dial pad, and four single touch fax.Brother includes the option to connect multiple users via built-in 10/100 BASE TX networking through USB connector cable and also has 32MB-64MB of onboard memory for direct data storage. The 600 by 2,400 dpi scans turned out the best out of all the features in Brother MFC 7440N.

Key Features:

* Print, Scan & Copy
* Small Footprint
* Network Ready
* Auto Document Feeder

With the front paper tray extended, you can add about another 8 inches to its depth. Still, it’s a good-looking design with smooth curves and a full set of controls on a top panel that, when used with the built-in card reader that’s hidden behind a panel on the front panel’s right side, lets you print photos from a memory card without a computer. Below the card reader is an IrDA sensor for printing photos from a cell phone or other IrDA-compatible device, and a USB port for Pict bridge direct printing as well as printing from a USB flash-memory device.
The iP6700D includes two paper sources: one flip-up auto feeder tray on the top back, and one cassette that slides into the bottom of the printer. Each of the paper sources can hold as much as 150 sheets of paper.

Features are almost identical to the iP6600D’s. According to Canon, the biggest difference is that photo contact sheets can now accommodate as many as 35 images. The company has also added a few more editing options when printing without a computer.

The Epson Stylus CX 3700 is not too big when compared to a lot of other MFDs out there, so it won’t occupy too much of your desk space. The buttons are well laid out and pretty much self explanatory.

The printer in the CX 3700 uses separate cartridges for every color, which is a great thing, as you only have to replace the color you run out of at a time. Each color cartridge costs Rs 355 (Rs 395 for black ink), so you’re not really spending too much for your prints. Besides the printer gave us a run of 257 pages before it ran out of a single color, which is pretty good for a home printer.

 Another thing that would keep you off high-quality photo printing is the amount of time it takes. It took us close to 20 minutes to print our A4-sized photo and color tests in the highest quality. There’s also an option to print in a high-quality fast mode, which cuts the time down to less than 12 minutes, but there was a slight lack of quality. The difference however was very minor and you wouldn’t probably even notice it, unless you’re looking out for it.

The scanner on the CX 3700 does a pretty good job of scanning the details of the subject as long as it’s perfectly pressed on the scanner bed.

At a price of Rs 5,999, the Epson Stylus CX 3700 is a workhorse. As long as you’re not expecting high quality photo prints or scans, this MFD will serve you well for all practical purposes. It’s fast with documents, gives your cartridges a good run and is pretty good as a copier. In other words it’s great for SOHOs and homes looking for practical usage, but not for the budding artist/photographer.
